FERNWEH, LOFOTEN
2022 - 2023
The German word Fernweh describes the desire to leave everything you know and hold dear behind and travel the world, a longing for a distant place that you don't yet know. My own Fernweh has taken me to far-flung corners of the world to photograph. Out there, the question ‘Aha, Lofoten?’ often followed when I told people that I’m from Norway. But I had never been to Lofoten, never longed to go there. Hoewever, I had many images in my head - of glowing midnight sun, steep mountains, fishermen's huts and stockfish. Then, in 2022, I decided to see for myself what makes this peninsula so special.
The work was published as a book in 2023 by Mare Verlag.
