EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS IS NOWHERE (2010 - 2011)
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere explores the restless lives of adolescents growing up in Finnmark, the northernmost region in Norway.
To a large extent Norway's increasing wealth is due to natural resources from this part of the country. Yet several small communities are left as nowhere lands, where local prospects may be limited.
While the project depicts the social challenges related to depopulation in small communities seen through the lives of the youth, my interest lies in the tension between what they are passionate about and dreaming of, and the landscape surrounding them; their hopes for the future and dreams to see the world, versus the ties to home and family.
